Website Programming and Design

Ok so I'm in the process of updating this page also.

I have this love-hate thing with web work. Love the challenge and the process. Hate the headaches, and the fact that the internet is changing at light-speed and it is hard to keep up with the latest trends.

Suffice it to say, I maintain a VPS, a bunch of website accounts, and enjoy helping a few folks along the way keep their website current and relevant. The latest thing down the pike that I loved-hated was the concept of RWD sites ("responsive web design") that automatically re-format pages for horizontal display on a desktop and vertical display on a phone or tablet. The coding behind the scenes if fairly involved, but now commonplace. Because RWD has completely taken over the world of web page design, templates have become far more popular, because they are designed to automatically re-format themselves for phones and desktops. That means less demand for custom sites in the way they used to be. Design is all "fluid" now. And, pretty standardized. The originality/creative factor has kind of gone out of it.

Regardless of all that, my main love was databasing anyhow.

So, in all honesty, for this and many other reasons I don't want to get into, I am slowly phasing out of the website business. I've been around the block a few times with this over the past 20 years or so, and seem a lot of changes. I may be able to offer advice, or just emotional support. A cup of coffee. A decent joke. :-D
